Snow causes travel disruption in Scotland and north-east England

Police advice in north-east England is to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Drivers in Scotland have faced long delays and road closures as snow continued to fall across the country.

The Local Government Association said councils had increased stockpiles of salt and grit but hundreds of motorists were trapped in their cars in Scotland overnight.

Many motorists had to abandon their vehicles and police have advised drivers not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
