Report finds overcrowding in Barlinnie is 'unsafe'

A report on Scotland's largest prison has found it is operating at more than 50% over capacity.

Brigadier Hugh Monro, the chief inspector of prisons, has said the situation at Barlinnie was not safe.

The opening of Low Moss prison in 2012 should reduce the pressure.

Barlinnie, in Glasgow, currently houses hundreds more prisoners than it was designed for.
