The price of Thalidomide's impact?

The 'calming' medicine Thalidomide was taken off the shelves 50 years ago.

The sedative was withdrawn after thousands of women who had been taking it gave birth to babies with deformities in 46 countries.

Many of the children died but 8,000 survived. The drug manufacturers had said no one knew drugs could affect the foetus.

In 1968 the first group of parents sued for damage to an unborn child before settling out of court.
