Special constables out on the Christmas beat

At Christmas and new year they will be out in force in their hundreds, patrolling the streets, maintaining law and order and all for free.

They are special constables and there has been much confusion about exactly who they are and what powers they have.

BBC Scotland joined a team of specials out on duty in Galashiels.
