Drug deaths increase in Scotland

There has been a huge increase in the number of drink and drug-related deaths in Scotland.

There were 584 recorded deaths last year, an increase of 20% on the year before and 76% higher than a decade ago.

Heroin substitute methadone, which is prescribed to addicts by GPs, was implicated in nearly half the deaths.
