Trident and the politics of Faslane

The Trident nuclear deterrent has taken centre stage in the independence debate.

The SNP wants to remove nuclear weapons from the Clyde in an independent Scotland.

During a visit to the Faslane base the UK defence secretary Phillip Hammond said his government was making no contingency for moving the nuclear submarine fleet any time soon.
