Alex Salmond: Nigel Farage protest 'needs to be put into context'

First Minister Alex Salmond has said that a protest during a visit by UKIP leader Nigel Farage needs to be put into context.

Mr Farage complained that the incident was racist and called on Mr Salmond to condemn the demonstration.

Mr Salmond replied: "If there has been any law-breaking - and that is yet to be established - then obviously we condemn that, as we always do in Scotland, but you have got to get things into context.

"A student demonstration isn't the Dreyfus trial."
