BAE Systems shipyard workers in Glasgow: 'We've been through this before'

BAE Systems is to cut about 800 jobs at shipbuilding yards in Scotland as part of moves to reduce its UK workforce by 1,775.

About 835 jobs will be lost at yards in Govan and Scotstoun in Glasgow, Rosyth in Fife and Filton, near Bristol.

Some 940 staff and contractor posts will also go at Portsmouth site, which will retain repairs and maintenance work but lose shipbuilding altogether.

Speaking to BBC Scotland after the announcement was made, one shipyard worker said: "It has been a good provider to me over the years. I just hope that it is the same for the young people and my son."
