Scottish independence: Sturgeon claims UK is no guarantee on EU

Foreign Secretary William Hague is in Glasgow to unveil the UK government's latest analysis on the impact of independence.

The paper is expected to focus on the EU and will claim that an independent Scotland's membership could not be guaranteed if there is a Yes vote.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has questioned whether Mr Hague can guarantee that Scotland will remain in the EU if there is a No vote:

"It's the in out referendum proposed by the prime minister by 2017 that poses the only and a very real risk to Scotland's continuing membership of the EU.

"If Scotland votes No and we don't become independent, there is absolutely no guarantee at all that we would stay within the EU. We could find ourselves taken out of it against our will."
