Scottish independence: Female Yes vote about 'practicalities'

The Scottish youth employment minister has said female support for independence is rising.

Angela Constance MSP, who had been promoted to the cabinet of the Scottish government by First Minister Alex Salmond on Saturday, spoke of the issues women face: "I think it's often about the practicalities of life.

"Irrespective of whether you're a woman who stays at home to look after your children or whether you're a working mother, quite often you've got quite a lot on your plate as it is in terms of childcare."

Ms Constance was speaking during a BBC Scotland debate on the Scottish independence referendum in Kirkwall.

The programme was screened on Tuesday and will be available for one week after transmission on the BBC iPlayer.
