Queen's Baton arrives in St Kilda

The Queen's Baton Relay has arrived in the remote volcanic archipelago of St Kilda.

The baton was carried by open-water swimmer Colin MacLeod and was met by the Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Norman MacDonald.

St. Kilda is one of the most remote parts of the British Isles, lying 41 miles west of the Outer Hebrides. The island chain which shows signs of more than 2000 years of human occupation was evacuated in 1930, when the final 36 islanders left.

St Kilda is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is now inhabited by staff and contractors working for the National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Ministry of Defence.
