The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest arts festival has started.

This year's festival features more than 3,000 shows in almost 300 venues, including traditional Maori displays by New Zealand's Kapa Haka performers.

Despite competition from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, organisers say they are confident of a busy opening weekend.
