Aurora Borealis warm-up for the solar eclipse

The skies across Scotland have been treated to a rare display of the Northern Lights, the moving ribbons of luminous colours caused by particles from the sun hitting the earth's atmosphere.

On Friday, there will be another celestial show when an eclipse of the sun will be visible across large parts of the country if the weather permits.
