Students across Scotland receive their exam results

Thousands of school students across Scotland have been receiving their exam results with a record number of Higher passes, up about 5.5% on last year.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority has admitted that the new Higher Maths exam was too difficult but has given assurances that the marking system has been amended to make sure candidates receive the grades they deserve.

More than 140,000 candidates have been finding out how they fared in National 4s and 5s, Highers and Advanced Highers.

BBC Scotland education correspondent Jamie McIvor reports.
