Bid to boost part-time firefighter numbers

The fire service has launched a recruitment drive to persuade more people to become part-time firefighters.

Many fire stations, particularly in rural areas, rely on retained crews who have other jobs but respond to emergencies when their pagers go off.

Fewer people have been joining up which could affect the level of service provision.
