Forth Road Bridge closed until 2016

The Forth Road Bridge will remain closed until at least the new year to allow for repair work to defects in the steel structure.

Transport minister Derek Mackay said a full inspection of the damage will take one week and necessary repair works at least a further two weeks.

Speaking at a news briefing on Friday morning, Mr Mackay said "safety is paramount", adding that the bridge will only reopen once it is deemed safe.
