Nicola Sturgeon: 'Not the time for significant tax cuts for better off'

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told the BBC that now was not the right time to give "significant tax cuts for the better off in our society."

The SNP leader was speaking ahead of her party's spring conference in Glasgow.

In an interview with BBC Scotland's political editor Brian Taylor, Ms Sturgeon was asked if she would maintain income tax cuts that Chancellor George Osborne might make in next week's Budget.

She said: "I hope George Osborne is sensible now - not hugely hopeful about that - and sees that this is not a time for significant tax cuts for the better off in our society.

"I believe that is the case so we will wait and see what comes in the budget and then we will base our decisions once we know what happens in the budget."
