Scottish parties' reaction to the Budget

There have been mixed reviews by Scottish politicians in Westminster to Chancellor George Osborne's Budget.

Scottish Secretary David Mundell welcomed the statement calling it "a positive Budget for Scotland" which will give an additional £658m to Holyrood.

Labour's Ian Murray welcomed the boost for the oil and gas industry and the freeze on Scotch whisky but criticised the increase in debt and the deficit.

Stewart Hosie, deputy leader of the SNP, said the Chancellor could have gone further by making allowances for exploration and production in North Sea oil and gas.

Former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Malcolm Bruce, acknowledged the importance of oil to the Scottish economy and acknowledged that the UK government cannot control the price of oil so any other help is beneficial.
