JK Rowling's Harry Potter chair sells at auction for £278,000

A chair used by JK Rowling to write the first two Harry Potter novels, in her Edinburgh flat, has been sold at auction for £278,000.

The anonymous buyer bought the 1930s oak dining chair, that had been signed and decorated by the author with references to the boy wizard, at an auction in New York.

Current owner Gerald Gray has said he will donate 10% of the sale price to charity.

The chair was first auctioned by the author for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in 2002 raising about £16,000.
