Theresa May wants nations 'fully engaged' in Brexit

Theresa May has said she is prepared to take Britain out of the single market to embrace a global future.

The prime minister set out 12 priorities for the deal she hopes to achieve through the Brexit negotiations - among them a wish to strengthen the union between the four nations of Britain.

Mrs May said she had been "determined from the start" that the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland should be "fully engaged" in the Brexit process:

"We won't agree on everything but I look forward to working with the administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to deliver a Brexit that works for the whole of the United Kingdom," she said.

She added that the repatriation of powers from Brussels to Westminster and the devolved administrations would ensure that there were no barriers to trade within the UK.

Mrs May also said no decisions already taken by parliaments in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh would be removed from them.
