Nicola Sturgeon: Indyref 2 'more likely' given hard Brexit

Nicola Sturgeon says a second independence referendum is more likely given Theresa May's plan for a hard Brexit.

The 12 guiding principles as set out by the prime minister included plans to take the UK out of the European single market.

When asked whether this meant a second vote was inevitable, the first minister said: "I think that is very likely the case.

"What I’ve heard today from the prime minister is an inability to engage in discussions that further compromise."

Ms Sturgeon told the BBC a choice was emerging about whether Scotland wanted to be forced into a future not of its choosing or to take control of its own future.
