New scanner could aid stroke and dementia diagnosis
Researchers in Edinburgh hope a powerful new scanner will shed light on the cause of bleeding in the brain.
The machine is being used to help detect the build-up of abnormal proteins which doctors hope will lead to faster diagnosis and more effective treatment.
The scanner, at Edinburgh University’s Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, combines magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET).
BBC Scotland's health correspondent Lisa Summers has been to see the scanner in action.
