The traditional New Year's Day Loony Dook in the Forth

More than 1,000 bathers charged headlong into the Firth of Forth for the traditional New Year's Day Loony Dook.

Thirty years after it began as a joke "hangover cure", the event has become a favourite element of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations.

The sell-out event at South Queensferry raises money for a number of charities.
