'Major incident' declared in Hawick as heavy downpours hit

A major incident has been declared in Hawick as torrential rain shut schools and caused travel disruption in the south and west of Scotland.

There are fears that up to 500 properties could be affected by flooding in the Borders town.

A number of schools shut in Dumfries and Galloway on Thursday as a result of flooding on surrounding roads.
