'My defection to Tories shouldn't trigger by-election'

Lisa Cameron, the MP who defected from the SNP to the Conservatives, has defended her decision not to stand down and trigger a by-election.

Dr Cameron said a by-election had not been called following previous MP defections as it "isn't part of the process".

The new Conservative MP questioned why she should be "the one to go", referencing the fact that all previous defectors had been male.

She said: "I don't think there should be one rule for them and a different rule for me."
