Shakin' Stevens hit creates Christmas cheer for songwriter

Merry Christmas Everyone hit the top of the charts for Shakin' Stevens in 1985.

Thirty years on, the song is still making money for Bob Heatlie, the Edinburgh songwriter who penned the number one.

Last year, the song made him £6,000.

"It is a nice little pension," he told BBC Scotland. "I always thought it would be nice to create a Christmas hit that would become an evergreen. I didn't think it would happen, but it did."
