Atlantic College celebrates 50th anniversary

Fifty years ago, a new school offering post 16 education for students from around the world was opened at St Donat's Castle near Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Atlantic College was set up to promote peace and understanding among the young people of the world.

It pioneered the International baccalaureate qualification and developed the style of lifeboats still used by the RNLI today.

The college was established in St Donat's Castle, the one time home of American media tycoon William Randolph Hearst.

The college has welcomed famous visitors, ranging from The Queen and the Emperor of Japan to Rhys Ifans and Dr Who actor Matt Smith.

Stephen Fairclough has been looking back - and speaking to some of the current intake, who come to the college from 90 different countries.
