NUT strike threat over Wales teaching standards plans
One of Wales' largest teaching unions has threatened to go on strike over the Welsh government's new plans to drive up literacy and numeracy standards, the BBC has learned.
Education Minister Leighton Andrews is expected outline his plans to set national standards on Monday. They include annual reading tests and a £7m support programme for schools.
But the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Wales says there has not been enough discussion between the government and teachers over the new framework.
BBC Radio Wales spoke to Kathy Griffiths from Swansea, a mother of 10-year-old twins.
She says she thinks the tests could be useful to make sure her children are on track.
