Welfare reforms 'necessary' says Guto Bebb MP

A Welsh MP has defended the UK government's welfare and benefit reforms, insisting public spending must be cut.

Guto Bebb, Conservative MP for Aberconwy, said the changes were necessary.

He spoke out after a Welsh assembly member warned the changes would have a "destabilising, damaging and devastating impact on communities".

In a strong attack, Communities and Tackling Poverty Minister Huw Lewis accused the UK government of "coming for ordinary Welsh people".

But Mr Bebb insisted on BBC Radio Wales that the government was not targeting poor people.

The UK government says the changes are needed and are fair.
