Womex: Cerys Matthews visits Butetown children

Pop star turned DJ Cerys Matthews has visited a Cardiff primary school which is set to perform at the grand opening of a world music industry gathering in October.

The former Catatonia singer is the artistic director of Womex (world music expo) 2013 taking place in the Welsh capital.

Up to 60 concerts featuring more than 300 artists will be held at the Wales Millennium Centre, with a fair trade exhibition at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena.

Matthews listened to pupils from Mount Stuart Primary School in Butetown perform on Friday.

The BBC 6 Music DJ will open the four-day event at the Wales Millennium Centre on 23 October.

She spoke to BBC Wales' arts correspondent Huw Thomas about Womex and her visit to the primary school.
