GP practices in real crisis, warns BMA doctors' leader
GP practices in Wales are facing a crisis with the profession on its knees, according to Dr Charlotte Jones, chair of the British Medical Association's GP Committee of Wales.
In an interview with BBC Wales, Dr Jones warns that a lack of investment in general practice and a shortage of resources for schemes to treat patients out of hours means some doctors are retiring early and it is harder to replace them.
BMA representatives gave evidence to a Welsh Assembly Public Accounts Committee inquiry regarding unscheduled patient care.
Dr Jones said the profession was facing a brain drain.
The Welsh government said it recognised GPs faced increased daily pressures.
