Christmas trees used to rebuild Talacre sand dunes after tidal storms

Unwanted Christmas trees are being planted at Flintshire's Talacre Beach to help with the restoration of sand dunes wrecked by the recent storms.

Flintshire council normally recycles the trees after every Christmas because although they are dying, they serve as a support as sand builds up around them.

But December's storms wrecked a frontline section of sand dunes built up over the past 15 years.

Now, the trees will be used to create new dunes, according to senior coastal ranger Mike Taylor.

Trees can be left at Wepre Park in Connah's Quay as well as Talacre Beach and nearby Greenfield amenity site until 12 January.
