Dealers will use drug project to 'peddle' legal highs, says minister

A drug testing project for legal highs and funded by the Welsh government will be exploited by drug peddlers, the Conservative shadow health minister has said.

Darren Millar AM told BBC Radio Wales the scheme, called Wedinos, dealers would use it to test the quality of their legal highs "to push prices up on the streets and advertise what they've got for sale".

The Gwent Drug Interventions Programme (DIP), in Cwmbran, said there was strong anecdotal evidence that legal highs are a growing problem.

A Welsh government spokesman rejected the claim and said the scheme could save lives.

Conservative shadow health minister Darren Millar and Josie Smith, from the Public Health Wales, spoke to Mai Davies.
