Public toilets in Wales not a 'soft issue' says commissioner

The row over public toilets is not a "soft issue", according to Wales' older people's commissioner.

Sarah Rochira told BBC Radio Wales the importance public conveniences should not be underestimated and they are "assets we need to preserve".

Her comments come as a new draft law by the Welsh government will put the responsibility on local authorities to make sure there are enough public toilets.

They would be required to assess, regularly review, and meet the local demand for the conveniences.

The new duty will be in a draft law setting out measures aimed at improving public health.

Ms Rochira spoke to Good Morning Wales presenter Peter Johnson.
