Aspirin may stop deafness caused by chemotherapy drug

High doses of aspirin could help prevent hearing loss among those having chemotherapy treatment, researchers in Cardiff have said.

Conditions such as tinnitus to deafness are a common side effect for patients given the chemotherapy drug cisplatin.

A Cancer Research trial involving 88 patients will be launched at Cardiff's Velindre Hospital to investigate whether aspirin could lower or prevent the risk.

Dr John Chester, a professor of medical oncology at Cardiff University, spoke to Mai Davies on BBC Radio Wales.
