Washed-up timber could be from 1899 shipwreck

Timber found on a beach may have spent a century under water before being washed ashore by storms.

The wood, discovered on Porth Neigwl, near Abersoch, Gwynedd, could be from a small sailing shipwreck dating back to 1899.

Paul Kay, of the Marine Conservation Society, and Chris Holden, who writes about north Wales coast wrecks, found the timber.

They think it may be from the nearby wreck of the "Rob the Ranter" which can sometimes be seen at very low tides.

Mr Kay spoke to BBC Wales.
