Tata Steel blames 400 jobs cuts on rates and energy costs

Around 400 jobs are to go at the Tata steelmaking plant in Port Talbot, the company has announced.

The cuts amount to around 10% of the site's workforce of 4,000.

The firm which employs around 7,000 throughout Wales, cut 600 jobs in 2012.

Tata said high business rates and energy costs in the UK meant the firm had to take steps to stay competitive.

BBC Wales business correspondent Brian Meechan reports.
