Nato school advice attacked by Vale of Glamorgan MP

A decision to advise schools in the Vale of Glamorgan to close early and open late during the Nato summit being held in Newport and Cardiff is "completely disproportionate" according to local MP Alun Cairns.

Mr Cairns told BBC Wales some of the schools were 25 miles from the main venue for the event at the Celtic Manor in Newport.

Schools in the county have been advised to close early on 3 and 5 September and open late on 4 September.

The council said this would minimise traffic disruption caused by delegates flying into Cardiff Airport.

Christopher Elmore, cabinet member for children's services, who will standing for Labour against Mr Cairns at next year's general election, told BBC Wales they were acting on advice from police.
