World War One rugby roll of honour: Dai Westacott

There were 13 Welsh rugby internationals who lost their lives in World War One. But who were they?

Dai Westacott was born 1882 in Cardiff and played for his local side, before the forward won his one cap against Ireland.

A Cardiff docker and well liked by the Cardiff rugby club crowd, he only managed to play for Wales once and it was a defeat after the squad suffered seasickness after a wretched Irish Sea crossing.

He served as a private in the Gloucestershire Regiment and the father of four had been injured at the Somme before he was killed in action in Wieltje near Ypres in 1917.
