RNIB Cymru: 'People going blind' over cancelled appointments
"Dire capacity problems" in eye clinics across Wales are causing people to lose their sight unnecessarily, claimed a report by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB).
The charity based its findings on interviews with practising specialists in Wales arguing that the appointments system here is unable to cope with demand.
The Welsh government said the report does not reflect the current picture, claiming significant progress has been made in detecting and tackling conditions which have an impact on people's sight.
Ceri Jackson, director of RNIB Cymru, said cancelled appointments could have a serious effect.
