Deprived areas of Wales need more help, ministers say

More work is needed to tackle deprived areas of Wales, ministers have admitted, as a list of the most deprived areas is published.

Lansbury Park in Caerphilly has overtaken the west end of Rhyl to become the most deprived part of Wales, according to new government figures.

The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation is calculated every three years, and looks at a range of subjects including employment, health and housing.

Seven of the ten most deprived areas in 2011 were still among the worst in 2014.

BBC Wales economics correspondent Sarah Dickins reports.
