Pets are "not cheap" and are "not a right", says RSPCA

An "alarming" number of pets in Wales are being abandoned, say the RSPCA as recent figures show more than 700 were dumped in Wales in the last 12 months.

RSPCA inspector Nicola Johnson said people often do not consider the implications of taking on an animal or the expense.

She said: "People move house, jobs change, wages change - everything is a factor.

"You have to be ready for how much it's going to cost you. Animals aren't cheap."
