Changing face of Welsh councils: When eight became 22

Council mergers is hardly the most gripping story, but the forever changing face of Welsh local authorities has been an interesting one.

Way back in 1974, eight councils were created, but that number was boosted to 22 in 1996.

And now as cash-strapped councils face budget cuts worth millions, they are looking at downsizing again.

Political reporter Carl Robert digs out his '70s leather jacket and takes a step back in time to explain all.
