Politicians should 'see the damage' of domestic abuse
A woman whose son was found dead weeks after she was shot by her estranged husband says schools could be the first place some children learn that domestic violence is not normal if the issue were to be taught in all schools by law.
Rachel Williams was shot at a Newport hairdressing salon in 2011, after which husband Darren, 46, killed himself. Her son Jack, 16, was later found hanged.
She is urging politicians to reintroduce a compulsory education on domestic violence element to the Violence against Women bill going before the Welsh assembly.
The bill could fail in the Senedd because a duty on schools is not included.
Opposition politicians say they cannot vote for the bill if "fundamental" elements involving education were missing.
This was supposed to be part of the bill but when it was introduced last summer, the education proposals were removed.
The Welsh government said amendments were still possible and discussions were ongoing.
