Bid to become youngest Welshman to conquer Mount Everest's north route

A climber from Carmarthenshire is bidding to be the youngest Welshman to conquer Mount Everest's North Col route.

Iestyn Richards-Rees, 28, from Llangyndeyrn, is heading to Nepal in May to tackle the path up the world's highest mountain.

The treacherous north route has seen twice as many people die along the way as the southern option.

Mr Richards-Rees has been training for the trip in the Brecon Beacons.

His bid is another link between Wales and the mountain, which was named after a man born in Crickhowell, Sir George Everest.
