Magnox job cuts: Vow to safeguard Anglesey nuclear workers

Efforts will be made to protect jobs in the north Wales nuclear industry, says a business leader after Magnox announced plans to cut 1,600 jobs across 12 sites, including one at Anglesey.

Magnox said: "The mission to safely decommission the Magnox sites has always predicted reducing staff numbers over the coming years."

John Idris Jones, from Anglesey Energy Island, said efforts would be made to help workers at the plant at Wylfa which is due to close next year given a new nuclear power station is being built on Anglesey.
