Wales programming 'vital part' of BBC agenda

The BBC said it was committed to Welsh audiences, after criticism of a long-term fall in English language TV programming in Wales.

The corporation was responding to the Welsh government's claim that a long-term decline in the number of comedy and entertainment programmes was "lamentable".

The subject was raised at a media summit in Cardiff, where the state of the media is being discussed.

James Purnell, BBC director of strategy and digital, told BBC Wales arts and media correspondent Huw Thomas there was no magic wand but English language programmes in Wales were a "vital part" of the BBC's agenda.
