Friars Walk: Verdict on £90m Newport shopping complex

Newport's new multi-million pound shopping centre has opened in what is seen as a landmark for the city centre's regeneration.

Friars Walk has been years in the planning and the development ground to a halt in the 2008 financial crisis.

It is predicted to create more than 1,000 jobs and add more than £100m to the local economy.

First Minister Carwyn Jones cut the ribbon on the centre, which was secured after Newport council lent the developers £90m in a commercial deal.

Jordan Davies reports.
