Ambulance changes promise 'better value and service'

Groups like the Red Cross and St John Ambulance will be invited to provide transport for non-emergency patients in Wales.

The aim is to relieve the pressure on the ambulance service, allowing it to focus on 999 calls.

Extended hours for non-emergency transport services are also part of the modernisation plan to be paid for from existing NHS budgets.

Deputy Health Minister Vaughan Gething said the changes promise better value and an improved service.
