Archive: M4 opening in Newport in 1966 (silent video)

As the Severn Bridge turns 50 on Thursday, it is also half a century since Wales had what was to become its first stretches of motorway.

The M4 around Newport was one of the first stretches of motorway to be built in Wales - and BBC Wales enjoyed a sneak preview of the 'new' M4 as it got ready for its opening in 1967.
